Project Q&A

I have a limited classroom budget. How much does participating in a project cost?
The cost for most, if not all, of The Teacher's Corner projects will be NOTHING! We understand how much money teachers have to spend each year and it is our goal to offer FREE resources and activities. If any supplies are needed to complete an activity, they will be basic everyday items. You can also ask parents to donate specific items if needed. Don't forget about your school and local city/county library!

How can I take advantage of the great premium features on Smilebox without paying for an account?
Use this Smilebox link which will take you to the "Teacher's Toolbox." Here you can register for a free premium account. This will let you create public or private slideshows without ads. The slideshows can be emailed or viewed online.

It is a little confusing to get the free account. You need to click the link that says "click here" to register for the free account AND you need to click the "Click Here to Get Started" to download the Smilebox Program. You need to use the same email when you create the account and when you register for the Teacher Toolbox. Use a school email if possible so that they know you are a teacher. It may take several days for them to update your account to the premium account. You still will be able to create a slideshow, but all features may not be active.

You will have to download the program. The program works for both PC and Mac! (note for Mac users - it integrates with iPhoto!)
Note: this program may not work on an older computer or if you have dial up internet - it seems to require a lot of "juice"!

What type of supplies do I need for this project?
You will need to have some way to turn your students' drawings/work into a digital file. Here are several ways that can be done:

  • Use your digital camera and take a photograph of each paper. Doing this outdoors in the sunlight will give you a great picture.
  • Have students create their drawing/work on the computer. Most programs, like KidPix, have an export option for an image format.
  • Scan your students' drawings/work.

I have younger students. How can a manage this manage my students and participate in this project?
Parent volunteers!! They are a great asset to any classroom. Ask for parent volunteers to be in your classroom during the specific times you are working on the project.

How many people can register for one project?
There is no limit! That's the power of our collaborative projects. We do not limit our registration. The more classes that register the more collaboration that can take place.

I want to take photos of my students working on this activity. What should I do?
Prior to taking photos for the Internet, make sure that you have the appropriate Media Release paperwork/documents for each student. You can check with your school's office or computer resource teacher to learn more about what your school and/or district require. Remember - we want to keep all students safe and respect their privacy.

Once you have your photos you can upload them to the Internet and email us the link. We will post the link on our Showcase page.
