Publishing Station

Students love to publish their own writing. Providing them with a variety of publishing options is important. You can do this by setting them up for success with a Publishing Station in your classroom.

Publishing Center WorksheetPUBLISHING WORKSHEET: Students can use the "Publishing Worksheet" to help them plan how they want their final published piece to look.

PUBLISHING PAPER: Below you will find three different paper options that you can print and copy for your students. (These are mentioned in the planning sheet.) All of the pages are set up so you can print them either single-sided or double-sided.

  • Paper Option A – This is an 8 ½ x 11 sized paper and provides students with the largest area for illustrations.
  • Paper Option B – This is an 8 ½ x 11 sized paper and when copied and folded, provides students with a small margin on the left for stapling.
  • Paper Option C – This is an 8 ½ x 14 sized paper and when copied and folded, provides students with a small margin on the left for stapling.
  • ½ and Full Page Blank – You can simply cut white or colored paper to offer your students.

COVERS: Providing your students with a variety of cover options can be cheap and easy. Your school will probably have various colors of tag board and construction paper to choose from. Visit your local decorating or home supply store and ask them for their old and discontinued wallpaper sample books. These are great for book covers!

MATERIALS: What’s a story without great illustrations? Provide your students with a variety of art supplies: markers, colored pencils, chalk, watercolors, etc.

BONUS: Keep an eye on the discount bins of your local craft and office supply stores…you can find great deals on special materials to offer your students for those special projects.
