World History Lessons - Ancient Greece

Ancient Greece

Dear Parents and Students,

Attached to this letter you will find guidelines for the upcoming report on Greece. Each student will be responsible for a research project having to do with Ancient Greece. I am asking parents to be aware of it so that they can keep their child interested and working. Each student may work individually or with a small group of 2 or 3 students. There will be some class time to work on projects. However, some homework time will also be necessary. There will also be some class library time, but it would be helpful if your child could go to the public library for further research and materials.

This project will require students to develop their skill in the areas of history, language, spelling, reading, research, communication, art, and report writing. Your support and encouragement will be very appreciated as will any ideas you can give. Please do not do the report for your child--they need to learn these skills to help them now and in their school years to come, though you may help them with the typing if they have written it out ahead of time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Greece Report Guidelines

1. Topic may be anything related to Ancient Greece. Your report and oral presentation must be on the the same topic. Be careful--don't make your topic too broad. There is lots of material in the library--do a good job on one thing instead of a poor one on many.
2. Reports are to be typed--double spaced--or very neatly written in ink in paragraph form. Each page should be numbered, beginning with one on the first page after the table of contents.
3. Reports should be 3 to 5 pages in length--a little less if typed.
4. You will need at have at least three different references. We will discuss this in class.
5. Your report should have two different visuals. These may be pictures, diagrams, maps, models, etc. related to your topic. These must be made by you!
6. Each report should have a cover and a title page. We will go over these in class.
7. If you are working with a group (2-3 students), each of you must work on a separate report. For example, if your group decides to work on art then:
Person 1: Greek drama
Person 2: Greek pottery
Person 3: Greek statues
8. Use your own words in your report. Do not copy sentences directly from a book or encyclopedia unless credit is given. We will discuss this further in class.
9. Organize your material in a logical manner. Divide it into sections. Each of these sections should have its own heading with a space following the heading. Leave two spaces after each topic. Each topic should be listed in the table of contents with the page number it begins on.

10. You may give your presentation with others in your group, or, if you are working by yourself, have others help you hold signs, put on a play, give a demonstration, etc. Remember that your oral report is to teach us something we don't already know.

The lists above are for you to know the order in which to put the material, and were written that way so that you would know what information you need to include.

Do NOT write your bibliography entries this way!

Each item of information should have its own line, and you need to skip a space between each reference.

Write them this way!
