Iditarod Sled Dog Race Timeline

The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is also known as "The Last Great Race on Earth." With a group of two or three other classmates, prepare a timeline displaying five important events in the history and future of the Iditarod. Your timeline should include the following events:

1. the historical event and its date that the Iditarod race commemorates;
2. the date of the first official race;
3. today's preparation for the race;
4. the date of this year's coming race; and
5. the date and recorded event of some fact that interests you in the past history of the race.

To prepare your timeline with your group, follow these directions:

1. Investigate dates and events for your timeline.
2. Plan your timeline to record your group's information. Note how many years your timeline will cover, how much information you must include, and how much room you need to allow for each segment on the timeline.
3. Make the timeline, adding illustrations and important notes about the events.
4. Create a "You Are There" index card to accompany each recorded date on your timeline. Include a brief paragraph on your index card (2-3 sentences) that explains the account of each event. (Explain each account using simple verb tenses: present tense, past tense, and future tense.)

MAKE SURE THAT EACH GROUP MEMBER HAS A JOB. EACH MEMBER WILL BE ASKED TO EXPLAIN HER/HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE GROUP PROJECT.
