How I Spent My Summer Vacation
Welcome to The Teacher's Corner first of many Online Collaboration Projects. The project is open to any K-8 classroom and will run from September 19, 2011 - October 9, 2011. (Registration for this project is CLOSED...visit the Showcase page to view links to students' work..)

This first project will help everyone get a new school year off to a great start while reliving some of the more memorable moments of summer vacation and reading the wonderful story by Mark Teague, How I Spent My Summer Vacation.

Book Synopsis
Some kids spend their summer vacation at camp. Some kids spend it at Grandma's house. Wallace Bleff spent his out west...on a ride, a rope, and a roundup he'll never forget.

Classrooms from around the world will have two activities to choose from. (You can also choose to register for both activities.)

The first activity, My Own Summer Vacation, has a writing focus. After reading the book, students will create their own exaggerated summer vacation story and illustration. Students will then share their work with other classrooms via the Internet.

The second activity, Are We There Yet?, has a math focus. After reading the book, students will use various paper and electronic resources to calculate the number of miles they traveled during their own summer vacations. Classes will then share their total mileage with other classrooms via the Internet.

Both activities will include any necessary resources, worksheets and Internet links needed to complete the project.
