December Traditions
Welcome to another one of The Teacher's Corner Online Collaboration Projects. As a computer resource teacher, I participated in the "December Holiday Traditions" project last year. This project was originally created by Karen Bosch (http://decemberholiday.wikispaces.com/). Due to her teaching assignment change, Karen is unable to offer the project this year and was kind enough to allow The Teacher's Corner to offer this great project for 2009.
Due to its late post, this will be a quick project, so keep that in mind while you are planning. The project is open to any K-6 classroom and will run from November 29th - December 31st. (Please note that the first portion of this project needs to be completed by December 11th.) REGISTRATION IS OPEN!
This project will allow students to share their family and/or cultural traditions during the December holidays. This project is designed to not require a lot of classroom time to complete. The project will utilize Smilebox - a great, free tool for sharing images on the web which will also allow students and parents to easily leave comments.
Students will create a picture that illustrates one of their December holiday traditions. You will then turn the student pictures into digital images. (Directions and options will be provided.) You will also need to create a free teacher account at Smilebox and download the free software to make a slideshow. (It may take up to two days for your account to be created, so I would create this account as soon as possible.)
Finally, make a slideshow using you students' project images using Smilebox and share the link to the slideshow with the other participating classes by emailing the link to me. (This is the portion of the project that needs to be completed by December 11th.)
Finally, participating classes should view at least 2 of the other schools' slideshows and leave comments. You could do the watching/commenting as an entire class or have each student watch and comment individually.
As with our other projects, w e have created a new special Social Group within our Message Boards just for those classrooms that are registered for the project. This group will provide you with the opportunity to ask questions and share additional activities and ideas. Once you have registered for the project, you will receive directions of how to join the group.
