This is a great way I have found to keep my students desks clutter free. At open house each year I ask for a 1" binder to store important papers. We work the first week on putting the notebooks together. I provide my students with a cover and in my classrooms "Sports" is our theme so I slip a paper with sports related things and the students names along with My Sports Notebook. I provide each student with 3 sheet protectors. They are used to store the "Weekly Behavior Sheet" that is sent home on Monday's, Our Reader's Theater play for the week and the "Weekly Newsletter" from our classroom that has the list of spelling words, vocabulary and activities that will take place during that week.
Each student also has an agenda that they use to write down their homework assignments and spelling words. There is a place for me to write down how their behavior was for each day. This is also stored in the Sports book. The students are provided with a orange and yellow folder. !
The orange folder is for papers that the students need to have signed and returned. The yellow folder is for papers that can be read and kept at home. My students have very neat desks because they know that every paper has a home.
