Thematic Units - Passports

Passports

My teammates and I had the kids make passports with all their pertinent information and room to include a stamp for each country; and a 'suitcase' out of bulletin board paper. Each teacher researched one foreign country and developed a sheet of information to share with the kids that 'traveled' to her room (we 'traveled' for 45 minutes each afternoon for 10 days...each child had visited 10 countries by the time we were done) We spent about 10 minutes telling about our country, 10 minutes reading a story and learning to say "Merry Christmas" in that language and 20 minutes doing a craft representative of that country. We used the last 5 minutes to 'pack up' and review what the kids had learned. The students really enjoyed 'travelling' to a different classroom each day, and it gave the teachers a chance to get to know other students. Each teacher only had to learn about one country, too.
