Country Current Events

I have each student choose a different country to follow at the beginning of the year. Each week they have to record some event that happened in their country and write a personal response to it. They share these with the class and keep a notebook for their country throughout the year. I found the students were very interested in each other's current events and sometimes they followed a news item for a while. One of my students was even able to recall valuable current events information during the state geography bee.
