Practice staying on topic in writing
I am working on staying on topic in writing with a 10th grader I have; I am also using this work to submit for his MCAS-Alt (the alternate assessment portfolio of work that can be submitted by some special education students instead of taking the high stakes MCAS paper/pencil test). Due to the state requirements, I need to have 9 data points showing his progress working on this skill, and he just doesn't write that often. Although he is usually polite when he refuses to work (often with a "No, thank you"), I don't believe I can get him to write and revise enough times by the end of the month when I need to send in his portfolio.
I am looking online (without luck) for writing samples that he can revise by finding off-topic sentences. The other students in my class write at a lower level, so using their work would not be considered "grade appropriate" for him. Are there websites that I don't know about where I could find some paragraphs or essays with intentionally off-topic sentences for him to practice this skills?
