Is anyone else doing this? If so, does it work? Is there anything I should know about it?

Since last year this has become the new focus of our school. We turn our state content standards into student friendly "I Can" statements and we have to post them on our wall and make references to them during our instruction.

For example, on my bulletin board it says, "I can recognize bias and stereotyping."

With each standard broken down into several I Can statements, we teach, and then give a formative assessment over the indicator. From there, if the student passes the formative assessment, he gets to take a summative assessment for a grade. If he can't, then we start the process over with him and move everyone else on.

I'm still a very young teacher, so I'm trying to do this to the best of my abilities, but sometimes I just feel overwhelmed.
