I am student teaching in a 1st grade classroom. The unit I am about to finish teaching them is on Thanksgiving. Upon the completion of my unit, I have to design a learning center.

At The learning center the students must be able to do the activity on their own, and they must be able to self correct themselves.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Please & Thank You

The learning center should reinforce skills you've already taught.

Since you have not listed any instructional objectives or described what you plan to teach your students, it's impossible to offer any other feedback at this time.

Other teachers might post ideas for learning center activities but without knowing what you're teaching, these activities will essentially be hit and miss as to whether or not they will be appropriate.

I've done nutrition using the preparation of a Thanksgiving meal. I like Thanksgiving a lot. I know that historically... well, it is problematic. However...

This doesn't mean this holiday should be eliminated. With 1st graders, you can have a conversation about what happened with Thanksgiving in the past and how we handle it today.

The idea behind Thanksgiving and the holiday itself are celebrated by my students' families. We kind of all collide culturally for this one day. (Maybe that isn't the best way to put that, but I think you get my point.) Will it always be this way? Probably not. I have not had child who does not celebrate this day. Of course, I let families know we are talking about it. They can then share what they do or do not do in terms of the holiday.

These are just my rambling musings. Without more information, Chef Dave is right. It is hard to know if you need an activity for science, math, sensory, ect. and what it should cover.
