This is a time critical post.

One of the problems we've had with education in this country is that we have 50 different states and 50 different state instructional standards. We actually have more than 50 sets of standards when you add in U.S. territories like Guam and Puerto Rico.

Given the increasing mobility of our students, students who cross state lines may find that standards for their grade level have totally changed. Gaps in educaiton are appearing. Critical skills are not being taught because we don't have a national consensus about what needs to be taught for each subject or grade level.

Our state governors are considering the possibility of creating a NATIONAL STANDARD for English and Math. There is by no means a consensus as to whether or not this will actually occur.

Their proposed standards may be found at this site:
www.corestandards.org

The deadline for providing any input or feedback is WEDNESDAY, October 21.

If these standards are adopted by our governors, we will have ONE set of national standards.

In other words ... you could be teaching these standards if they are adopted.
