Is it okay for me as a teacher to send a letter home asking for donations for my classroom. Basically, I am looking for sanitizer for the kids during flu season.

It is fine. My center has a list to give families of things they can donate "in kind". We also have a list of things the students have to have like a toothbrush, sunscreen, ect.

One note of caution: I don't know the age of your students, and it could make a difference. However, I have to be careful about what products I use with my students. Some things - like donated sanitizer - can be scented and upset children with sensory or allergic sensitivities. You might want to ask for a specific kind if you're going to be using it with all the students in a group of young children.

I would also check with your principal to make sure it is okay. Boxcar's mention of the scented sanitizer is important to remember - I have had kids with asthma and couldn't use the sanitizer I bought.
