Do not spare the rod to make learners learn. i am a student teacher of 29 years and presently studying at a college in Francistown, Botswana. I have been going through an education system since primary in which beating of learners is coming practice. i think it is good-without the regular i recieved i don't think i would have ever done my homework. In this college they are preaching "never beat learner" i do not belief that can work. i cannot see myself being a teacher and not having to beat learner to keep them under control and make them work.what are the experiences of other student-
teachers?

You are told "never beat the learners," but you are not given examples of what to do instead? This sounds very frustrating! But don't give up. :) It IS possible. Here in the United States, physical punishment is forbidden in many schools.

Before sharing ideas, I have a few questions for you:

1. What age group are you working with?
2. How much support or cooperation do you have from the students' parents?
