Whats up with the pop up add that now appears every time I go to a new page? I don't remember it being there before and it is making it really annoying trying to look around! Just wondering!

You see a pop-up advertisement? We don't allow those from our advertisers. Can you tell me what product it is for? Does anyone else see this advertisement?

It was doing it this morning when I was on. Two ads, one had the Jonas Brothers (I think). The other had a person tapping her foot listening to music (ipod maybe). I didn't pay much attention to the ad itself, but it was pretty annoying. Every time I clicked to another page, the ad at the top would drop down over the posts.
It is not doing it now.

This is disturbing. Please keep an eye out. If you see a pop-up, please note what is being advertised. Noting what is on the ad (Jonas Brothers) helps, but what the ad is actually for can really help me narrow it down.
Typically, a pop-up ad only shows once (sometimes twice, rarely will it show more than that) during your visit to a site, but we still FORBID them on this site with our advertisers.
Though we do depend on ad revenue for this site, we refuse to run any ads that have the following: POP-UPS, forced audio, forced video, full-screen layovers, and ads that are too risque for our users - ie. firearms, alcohol, gambling, etc. We find these to be too intrusive, and inappropriate.
If you do see one of these types of ads, please note what is advertised. To find the actual offender, I need to look through thousands of ads approved by several different advertising brokers, so narrowing it down to the product will help immensely.
Thanks for keeping an eye out!

I'm getting pop ups everytime I cahnge pages..."slot radio" for one and a gazillion other pop ups......I'm new...I thought the site was doing the pop ups...and I thought, boy that's weird...they won't let the site users recommend any useful products to each other, but here they are advertising all this useless stuff...

Susan,
First, thank you for the additional info - I am working to track down the pop-ups as I write this. :)
Second - yes, we have very good reason for not allowing people to advertise in our forums, as I see you found out. Our intention with these message boards is to keep a "SPAM-FREE" zone, but with hundreds of people constantly trying to promote their sites/goods/services, it makes it nearly impossible to review all sites and products that are advertised to see if they are appropriate - and contrary to a VERY popular belief, our forums are NOT for free advertising for any and every 'Joe Schmo'. That is why you must be a trusted member of our community before posting links to "helpful products".
In addition, this site is 100% supported by advertising revenue (which makes us able to offer our resources for free). If you are interested in advertising, you can follow this link: http://www.theteacherscorner.net/ads/index.htm. That would be the quickest way to get your link posted on our site. If you have a product or service with a 'monetary' value, you can also barter a giveaway on our site to get 'free' advertising.
If you have any further questions/comments feel free to contact me directly - clicking on my username to the left of this post, and choose "send a private message"

Take care,

Ok - I have contacted a couple of my ad brokers, and I was able to adjust one on my own. If you notice them abruptly stop - please let me know :)

"The Fabric of my Life" ...Download for extended version of the music from the Cotton Campaign.
This one also drops down on the page when you move from page to page. It also contains a video.

Thank you for keeping us pop-up free and not allowing ads with automatic audio or other annoying features.

SS Rocks! - I am trying!:idontknow: I NEVER get these ads (I think my brokers are trying to sneak them by) - so I only know if someone tells me. I friggen hate pop-ups, and non-user initiated slide ins/outs/audio video - I HATE THEM!
Honestly, I would rather drop my advertising broker. Someone is VERY close to losing my account. I just wish I could find out which broker is displaying them. All of them are claiming it is not them.

Hi..It's Friday morning and the annoying pop up ad for SR Slot Radio (the one of the girl tapping her foot and listening to headphones) is still here - whenever I go to new page it wants to slide down and cover what I am trying to look at - and there doesn't seem to be a way to actually close it.....

Found 1! Ok. Now everyone - I was looking in the wrong place for "Pop-ups". I found a Slot radio and LG. They are at the top of the page, and when you place your mouse over them, they expand...
Is this what you see? A 'pop-up' actually spawns a new browser window. An 'expandable' stays on the same page, but it expands an ad that is already there. We do not like expandables either but we have approved a very select few - none from LG, Disney or Slot Radio - and especially if they have audio or video or expand for no reason and block parts of the page.
So are they all 'expandables'? Do they expand when you mouse over them - or at any time? Are they only from the "top" long ad or do they come from the right column ad as well?
I'm getting closer!

I got the Slot Radio one just now. It is from the top of the page and folds down. It doesn't cover the entire page. It doesn't have audio or video.

Now, I got the LG one. It asks something about "Is it a TV?" and there's a button to learn more. If you click an open space on the page, the ad closes. This one has a type of video effect to it.

They are expandables (It is like they drop down on the page). They are dropping down when you move to another page or try to scroll down the page. It covers the post. I was trying to reply to a post last night and the thing kept dropping in front of it.

I took screenshots for you, but the attachment is too large for the site. I've seen three different ones so far. They aren't horrible or anything. It can be a little annoying, but it isn't something that would deter me from visiting.

This is very upsetting to me. I've found the ads and tracked down which ad broker is delivering them. I just sent off an email giving them 2 hours to remove the ads.
I am very sorry for this - I just wish I could regain the users I probably lost from having these ads on our site. I wish I could have found them sooner...
Thank you all for sticking in there, and helping me to identify the ads. It really helped me out.
Please continue to update in this thread - hopefully all will be gone in a couple of hours...

Yeah - finally got them out. :)
Everyone: PLEASE continue to let me know if you see any of these types of ads again. Sometimes they are targeted to other cities, etc and so I don't ever see them. The ad brokers get LAZY and don't filter them out (or they lie about it) - so I never know unless someone tells me.

I am getting an ad that becomes very large every time I try to move from post to post. I have to exit the ad before I can scroll, it is becoming very annoying. It is the ad at the top of the page (mainly post it and LG), but then the ad pops out to become a huge ad.

Thank you for continuing to keep me informed, I'm not sure why this company is having such a hard time.
I didn't see those, but I did manage to get a DELL expanding ad. I have removed that ad broker from the delivering ads to the offending adspace (which is the top ad on the page).
Please continue to let me know about these! I depend on you all telling me about them. If you see more, please let me know.
Thank you!

hey, another thought (keeping in mind I read all of page one, then skipped to page 4) that some of you could have easily picked up an adware 'bug.' this is a file that will record where you go online and then when you go someware that they can advertise with you being in the target audience (based on your view history) they hit you with the pop-up. which would be no advertiser from Teacher's corner. possibly check the update on your anti-adware (not the same as anti-virus) software... if you're curious, adaware has a free download. and I'm sure there are better ones that I don't know about.
-Cheers

smithmt - this was the possibility that I initially thought of (because my advertisers wouldn't try to sneak unapproved ads by me - would they?). But indeed I found that they are targeted to areas that I do not live in, so I never saw them. After using proxy IP addresses in other cities, I was able to see the ads. They were served here, and though these ads are completely harmless, they are annoying. So the 'ad broker' is working on methods to stop them from showing on our site, and until they find a reliable method - The Teacher's Corner is no longer serving that particular brokers' ads.
