HELP... Research project is due next week...
Please reply to the attached survey aSAP
thank you
1. HOW OFTEN DO YOU INCORPORATE GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS INTO YOUR INSTRUCTION:
(check all that apply, and offer clarifying comments if you wish)
___ Every subject, every day… They are the only way to go!
___ Rarely
___ Only when I have time to create a really good one that fits with the lesson
___ What’s a graphic organizer? I’m not sure I know how to use one effectively
___ Only for writing (for the planning process)
Comments:_________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _.
2. IN YOUR OPINION, WHY SHOULD GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS BE UTILIZED IN A LESSON?
(check all that apply, and offer clarifying comments if you wish)
___ I don’t really know… but I know it is recommended best practices for teachers
___ Many students need to cognitively process learning material, and graphic organizers help
with this processing.
___ Some students (such as ELLs) need some of the “language” of a lesson in front of them to
help facilitate understanding of the lecture.
___ I’ve tried them, but they don’t seem to help students… They seem to create an extra
step…more work to do… and there’s just not enough time to incorporate them into a lesson.

3. FOR WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU FIND GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS MOST BENEFICIAL?
(check all that apply, and offer any clarifying comments if you wish)
___ Writing ____ Math ___ Science ____ Social Studies ___ Guided Reading
___ DEAR Reading ___ Read Aloud responses ___ Fiction Text ___ Expository Text
Comments:_________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _.
4. WHEN IT COMES TO USING GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS, I USUALLY:
(check all that apply, and offer any clarifying comments if you wish)
_____ Create my own organizer so it applies directly to the content I’m teaching
_____ Utilize standard graphic organizers, such as T-charts, Venn Diagrams, Idea Webs
_____ Utilize the graphic organizers that are provided as part of the curriculum I’m working with
_____ Don’t know which graphic organizer is appropriate to use for the specific nature of a task
_____ Access a website or a educational resource to get some ideas
Comments:_________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _.
5. DO YOU EVER CHOOSE NOT TO USE A GRAPHIC ORGANIZER BECAUSE YOU ARE LIMITED IN THE NUMBER OF COPIES YOU CAN MAKE AT YOUR SCHOOL?
___ YES, I’m afraid I’ll run out of copies for other projects
___ NO, I’ll still use them, even if I have to make and pay for my own copies at Kinkos
___ NO, My school does not limit my use of copies so this is not an issue for me
___ Sometimes I have the students draw their own graphic organizer on a sheet of notebook paper so
I don’t have to make copies. (if you choose this option, I’d love your feedback on whether or
not you find it a productive use of students’ time to draw their own graphic organizer)

6. Please explain what you could use the most help with in terms of incorporating graphic organizers into your classroom)
