We are high school seniors working on a project to develop a device that would help teachers control student activity on computers. We would greatly appreciate it if you could answer this survey.

Great idea for a project. :) Do you have an age group in mind? My students are 3 - 5 years old, so I'm not sure I can take the survey. Would you only like middle/high teachers to answer?
SS Rocks!

Our school has software that lets you watch what is on the screen of each computer in the lab and even take control of a student's computer. It's nice if you have multiple teachers in the lab and have one person sit and monitor what the students are doing. I need to be circulating around the lab answering questions, so I can't exactly sit at a computer and watch what they're doing.
Best of luck with your project!
One day when I had some help in the lab, I had a seat at the computer to try out the software. I saw one of my students across the room stand up and go talk to one of his classmates. I used the program to take control of his computer and started typing in his Word document, "Jared, why are you out of your seat??????????????????????????...". When the young man returned to his computer he was baffled as to why question marks were scrolling across his screen. It was the funniest moment in my short teaching career.

A little bit of explanation about my responses. I said that asking works with my students. I'm am certain this is because they are preschoolers. They have the choice to either use the computers appropriately or do another activity until they are ready to follow the rules. Most of my issues are things like not taking turns nicely and the like. The children don't go online without supervision - i.e. we are looking something up together. Because children of this age learn through the senses and are very concrete, computers aren't a big part of the curriculm. It doesn't fit with their learning styles. As a teacher of even the lower elementry grades, my situation would be quite different. The oldest age is six that I have experience with.
