Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my new school:), really like my 6th graders (even the few who aggravate me) and find the community to be very accepting and very supportive. :D

One might say that if you've got that, you've got it all and I would have to say you're right....well, mostly....

I've already mentioned the co worker who said she resents my being the "cool teacher," then said she didn't mean it, then said she was having dreams (some might call them nightmares) about my trying to take over the school. I am still laughing about that one!

Now it seems there is a 7th grade science teacher (did I mention her already?) that took exception to my maintenence of some microscopes I borrowed from her. She was right to be concerned. They were not returned in particularly good shape and that was clearmy fault. No arguement there. But she had raised the issue in the middle of a crowded hallway, with my class filing by, then came down to my classroom a week later and brought the matter up again, because she wanted to be certain I "understood" what she meant to tell me.

I have made a mental note to minimize my contact with that person and to never, ever borrow as much as a beaker from that teacher again in my years on this planet.

There had been no further clashes, but it seemed that she "watched" everything I did and was constantly commenting, either verbally or via e mail, on just about everything I did. No, not all the comments were bad. Actually, most were good, but I feel a bit like a gold fish in a small bowl. :confused2:

Then yesterday, I get another "poison pen" e mail, fussing at me for giving students the permission to go into our teacher's area (on her floor) to get drinks. I have two after school clubs and apparently, one of them did this and told her they had permission from me....a complete falsehood.

As i say, I feel like a specimen on a microscope slide. :idontknow:

I admit to being a tad bit irritated, but I also find it all a little bit amusing.

My take on this???

Funny as it may sound, I think these women feel threatened by my efforts and the attention I am getting.

Add to all this, a few days ago, during a meeting and and an impromptu "discussion" about our state budget and the political parties differing positions on it, one of our teachers announced that we should not base our vote on the candidate that best supports education, but upon the one that God wants us to support....ostensibly, the republican candidates.

I wanted to wretch, but held my tongue and refused to buy into the "discussion." Interestingly enough, no one else chose to comment either.

As i say, I do love my new place, but it sure has some quirky people in it....which is actually okay, because I am pretty odd myself...:)

The candidate that God wants? Seriously? I admire your self-control that you react outwardly! I'd have had a hard time not rolling my eyes, bursting out laughing, or making some comment.

I don't like the politics at some schools. I have to be sexist here and say it is some of the ladies mostly who do crazy things like scrutinize your every move. Those cat-and-mouse games sure can be interesting and often humorous to watch. However, sometimes I'm like "Really? You don't have lesson plans to write or something?" I'm not the most social person and have to think that the staff will find me odd and cool at times. I don't mean to be, but I don't want to get all tangled up in their mess either.

I bet you are right. They do feel threatened by you. Maybe they will relax soon...

Well, now we know who God wanted as President, or should I say the people of God have spoken. Don't get trapped in all that social crap talk in the faculty room that spreads and moves through the staff like a kids game of telephone. As you can see, if your in that situation, lock your mouth and listen. Also, the kid who lied about going into the teacher's room should be given consequences for inappropriate behavior. Otherwise, other kids will try to do the same and continue to blame you and or other staff members.

I agree, I think they feel threatened, and are showing their insecurities. Good that you can let it roll off you, it can derail a day if you let it get to you. Doesn't it make you wonder what will happen next? Kinda exciting!

In a way, yes, but still annoying in another way.

I have never liked it when those who are placed in charge of teaching our youth show such insecurity and relative immaturity. What kind of role models do they make when this happens?

But meantime, the kids, their parents, and administration, not to mention my co workers, are quite happy with me. I can't ask for a lot more than that. :)

I'm so glad you are finally where it is good. You so deserve it. :)

I hope you didn't misunderstand my post "kinda exciting". Behaviour like this can get annoying and unfortunately, out of hand. My comment was meant to be more in line with yours of the behaviour being "amusing". Perhaps the positive that comes out of this is that if they are looking for attention from their students, they might reassess their own practice with an eye to improving. Hopefully that would spring from a desire to do whats best for their students and not because it is a popularity contest.

No worries.

My initial thoughts about this were that it is almost comical. :)
