does anyone have any cute crafts they do with their kids for holiday gifts to the parents. I would like to do one that doesn't scream christmas but I can't seem to think of any good ones.

:) I usually go to the Oriental Trading Catalog. They are also online. They have an item where the kids can design a picture frame. It comes with all the pieces: a foam type frame in dark blue, it has more foam pieces that create a snowman and a piece that says 2008, there is an evergreen tree, snowflakes, a skier, etc. All these pieces are glued onto the outer part of the frame. Each kid brings in a photo or we take a digital picture of the kid in a stocking cap and affix it to the back. There are magnetic strips that we affix, too. The kids bring in pieces of wrapping paper and ribbon, and we wrap these up and the kids take them home as their gift to their parent or guardian. It's simple, all the pieces are there, it's basically layout the pieces the way you like, glue and paste and set to dry and wrap to go. It works for me who is not very artistic. Check it out. Good luck.

I like to buy magnetic paper. It can be purchesed at office supply stores. You can print a shape on it and cut out the shape. The children subsequently decorate said shape.
If you don't want to do a shape, use rectangles and let the students decorate those. The parents can hang up things on the refriegerator using these.
My students love making snowflakes. We did this in July as a spontaneous activity. It was great. If you get foil type paper, they look awesome.
