This is a long article, so I won't paste it all here. Basically, the Social Security Administration has decided that some of us should be paying SS on top of the teacher retirement. They have also discussed only giving these employees 2/3 credit for years of service.
In the past, any employee working that posesses a certificate from DESE that works 17 hours a week or more is excluded from SS coverage. The new ruling states that this does only includes teachers, teacher-secretary, sub, supervisor, principal, super, assistant super, nurse, and librarian.
In addition, they have decided that vocational teachers are not included because back in the day, vocational teachers didn't require a teaching certificate. These teachers will be required to pay 2/3 PSRS and full SS.
Call, email, contact your rep, senator, governor, etc today. Complete information is in the article.
