View Full Version : Congratulations, USA!!!
I am so pleased to read that you elected Obama.
If I were American, he would've had my vote.

I am proud that our country has elected a black president and that we had a woman running as vice president. However, I have to be honest and say that I voted for McCain. But that is what's great. We have a choice and we can all vote for the candidate of our choice. When our choice doesn't win, then we have to accept that and support the winner, just like McCain encouraged us to do in his speech last night.

Look at how many people voted! Maybe people got a taste for politics and will be more involved now.
I'm American and I voted for Obama. Yes we can! This is the first time I really feel the power of democracy because it's the first time the candidate I voted for won.
This election was so healing for so many of our country's wounds, but I didn't vote for Obama cause of his race. I voted because I think he will make a good president. I think that is the important thing--that the gender and race issues in this election make history, but that voters voted for the candidate and not the race/gender.

HISTORICAL! What a year for American politics! It has been exciting listening to the fourth graders this year. In the past, they just seemed like little parrots talking about what their parents might have said. However, this group of kids was into the election for the historical statement. They are old enough to remember this and for the first time ever, I truly believe that EVERY child could look at the outcome and believe that they can do ANYTHING they want.
Amazing! As teachers, we know the stereotype of the minority child in a one parent home and the pity we are going to bestow. Did this break that mold or what?
Being from Indiana, we did something that hadn't been done since 1964!! We had a DEMOCRAT win our state!! We are still a Republican stronghold, but it has been interesting. We were never a state to see candidates to any degree. It was unreal how many times a representative from the Obama camp (or the man himself) or the McCain camp came around. There was some real excitement in this state for the first time since I began voting in the 1970's.
At the same time, I think that McCain may have given one of the most eloquent speeches ever heard last night as he conceded the race! Impressive.

I have long considered the land of my birth to be a great nation, but I feel even more so now.:)
Democracy works and the election of 2008 proved it!

In the short term, I believe Obama's election is going to be a disaster for our country but in the long term, I believe it will be good because it will force Americans to come face to face with the consequences of pure, unfettered liberalism.
Was it historic? Yes. Of course, it also historic when Hitler invaded Poland but that doesn't mean it was a good thing.

I love my country. I don't think things are perfect, but I have feel greatful to be here. Look at all the pain and suffering in other places... I can't imagine the stress and fear of indivduals in some of the other places in the world... Viewing the whole picture is an overwhelming perspective...

It is a great country and all of my fellow Americans can be proud of that. The numbers were what one. Anything is possible here. Through war and through peace it's when people come together that's when it counts. I just watched Pearl Harbor and cried tears of joy. God Bless America
Wow. You just compared Obama to Hitler.
Shock.

Yes it has, and there are just some elements, sad as it is, who cannot accept that. I've heard a lot of loose and reckless talk, similar to that of War Eagle, and can only say I feel pity for such short sighted individuals.
I voted for Obama. In fact, I voted the straight democrat ticket, something I have not done, as a Southerner, in a long, long, while, but I remain proud of what we have accomplished here.
I am thrilled that one of the states of the former confederacy actually voted for a black man with a Muslim sounding name. We have grown up soooo much since the 60s, both ourselves and the commonwealth of Virginia.
I don't really believe War Eagle meant to compare Obama with Hitler....at least I hope NOT. Had the unthinkable occured, and McCain had won, I would not be taking that tact.:confused2:

Besides the economy, I hope Obama does something about the No Child Left Behind law, or as I call it, Every Child Pushed Ahead. I can't wait to see who he puts in charge of Education. I only hope it is a former educator who realizes every child can't be pushed ahead.
