I am a college lecturer working part time. I wanted to look for a full time teaching job in a school but have a 5 year old boy who goes to school at 8.50.

What do other full time teachers do for childcare?? If you need to get to work by 8.30 am. What do you do for morning childcare??

I don't want to drag my son out of bed at 6.30am same time as me, as I think it's unfair.

Any ideas please?? plus what time does your day finish?

I am unmarried and childless, but to be honest, the teachers I work with get their kids out of bed at 5 or 6am to get them ready and have "family time" at the breakfast table before they all go off on their way. Not for nothing, if the child is going to bed early enough, they should have no trouble getting up at 6:30. (My parents strictly had me in bed by 8 when I was 5 years old, and I got up at 6am.) This will also allow you some time to yourself in the evening.

A teacher's day typically ends at 3:45 - 4:30ish, but it often doesn't stop there. You have to do prep on weekends, after school, make phonecalls, etc. It's not as bad as it sounds, but sometimes you really get dumped on by students, parents, administration. You may need to have someone on-call to take care of your child, like a friend or family member, or a service.

My school has a childcare center. It is staffed by a teacher and a couple of aids but high school students can take a childcare class and work in the center as well. Several teachers have transferred from the other high schools in the district to mine just so they could put their kids in childcare. it works out well for them, but this is not the norm... I don't know of many other schools with childcare centers.

Perhaps an older individual from a local church or something might be willing to do some type of morning care. I know some women who are now retired still wake early and might like caring for a child again.
