Before I can refer a student to the Instructional Intervention Team, I have to do something called "research based interventions." However, no one seems to be able to tell me exactly what that is, how I present the findings, or to give me some examples.

My thinking is that I do some sort of pre-test, initiate an intervention, then give a post test to measure growth.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

They really make it difficult to get help for your kids these days!

In my state we use "Response to Intervention" or RTI before a referral can take place. For reading we can use ELLA, SRA Reading, etc. for scientific research based intervention. For math, Everyday Math, or something similar. As a SPED teacher I have the teachers to document the scientific reasearched based strategies they implemented and for how long. The teachers also have assessment results showing improvement or lack of improvement. The length of intervention is usually decided by each school district. Also the interventions must be provided by a highly qualified individual. I don't know what state you teach in so the program titles may be different. You may also want to talk to your local SPED program supervisor. That person can give you more information on Research Based Intervention. I hope this helps!!:waving:

OOh! Thank you! I do use AC math as a supplemental program. I think that might work!

We've instituted RtI in our school too, and a website that has lots of intervention ideas is Intervention Central:

Thank you so much for the link! :) Our school is running a pilot program with one of our seventh grade teams. I (a sixth grade teacher) am working with them because I attended a training session over the summer for this sort of thing. We use a different title, but it's the same basic thing.

Glad to help. I know we've been overwhelmed with all the new requirements, and our problem-solving team referred us to the website.

I think the most comforting part of the website is that it shows we all use many interventions on a regular basis; we just considered them part of our regular teaching practice. :)
