Okay, I'm sitting here at school getting lesson plans printed, and a mouse just ran under my feet. NOW I'm awake!

very good reason not to stay late! I bet all kinds of creepy-crawlies come out in my school at night. The custodian told me I had a BAT in my hall this summer!

EEWWW! I hope someone else was around. Did you get the mouse or he is still running around?

This reminds me of one of my funniest --yet "ick"iest teaching moments. Several years ago, I was at my desk while the kids were coming in and getting settled. Suddenly the girls are shrieking and telling me that there is a mouse. They just didn't seem upset enough so I am thinking that they are playing a joke on me. Until suddenly there is very quick movement by a little creature on the floor--and girls are on top of desks.

Sure enough we had a little visitor. Come to find out, it had come to school in one of my boy's backpacks. He apparently had some food in it and the mouse had gotten into the backpack and made the trip to school. We sent a secretary home for a cat and moved to the library for the day. That wasn't before he had crawled into the sleeve of one of the girl's winter coats and left a calling card or two.

A few weeks later the same boy told me that he almost brought another one, but he had realized that one was in his backpack before he left home. (I was sure grateful that I didn't live in that house!!)

Kinda makes you want to give everything a shake before you take it home, eh???

Did you wave and say, "Hi Mickey!!"?

I DID move quickly, and make a noise, but I'm not sure you could interpret it as a wave and a hello ... more like a surprised squeak and a quick dash to get out of its path ...

I'm not usually scared of things like mice, but at 6 in the morning, I don't like surprises!!
