I am currently working on finishing my MLS and obtaining my PA teaching certification, too.

I am interested in being a reading specialist and would like to know how I go about specializing in that area? I have to take the Praxis tests, etc. but I'm confused on what I need to do to become a reading specialist.

Thanks for your help. :)

check with your college, or state department of education.

I am working towards getting my masters as a reading specialist right now.

It wasn't very difficult to get into the program. Not every school offers a reading certification, so my choices were pretty limited though.

My process was an application (rolling admissions) with an essay and recommendations. From there I was assigned an advisor, and we had an interview. Based on my application and interview I was granted admission. I did not have to take any Praxis for reading.

It's a great area to get into, and I've really enjoyed it. I don't know if I will become a reading specialist, but all my classes have really helped my teaching skills.

Good luck!
