Hello. I am looking for some statistics for a research project. The type of thing I need to find out is:

a) What levels are typically studied at in the US and Canada (e.g. the equivalent to undergraduate / postgraduate / masters and PHD in the UK.)

b) What the highest subscribed-to courses are at those levels. (E.g. is Psychology most popular subject in the US)

c) Any other national statistics might help too.

Does anybody know of websites that present such national stats? Thank you in advance.

My first question is:
is this research project for a college course?
second is
Are you in anyway associated with a university?

the reason I ask is because college librarians are insanely gifted when it comes to ferreting out that kind of information source. I have never failed at ANY research that I utilized the librarians' noses for the scent of blood. I believe there are volumes of statistical data year by year... but I am several years out of college and I forget exactly what the volumes are called... if you happen to be NEAR a university, you might be able to get away with utilizing as long as you don't try to check out any materials... and don't look suspicious. :)

you could try your local library, but the librarians are hit/miss... especially because you sometimes get volunteers who didn't take library science. I hope this points you in a direction you desire to go. good luck.

As an education writer, I have the 2008 U.S. Census Bureau's Statistical Abstract of the United States printed out and where I can reach it.

This puppy has all sorts of facts and figures. However, I think this is the area you'll use most: http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/cats/education/higher_education_degrees.html

I don't know where you can get a comparison of U.S. degrees to other countries' degrees. Good luck with that one.

I have the ginormous 52-page U.S. Census Burreau report on my hard drive, but I can't find the .pdf link. The report is k-16, though, so I'm not sure how useful the first 45 pages would be to you.

However, if you want me to e-mail you a copy of it, just send me a P.M. with your e-mail address.
