Do all anatomy labs have to be dissecting? When students do presentations or work in groups researching, measuring, etc., does that count as laboratory based (even on a tech/research level)?
I intend on doing a few dissections this year, don't get me wrong.
The reason I ask is a joke was made to me that my assigned classes do not handle dissections very well.
I personally, even though I am not squeamish, do not like doing them frequently because of the mess, expense, extensive prep time, and something deep down in the hippie tree hugging part of me is "bothered" by them because I know the animals were intentionally killed for the purpose in many cases. I found a fun discovery lab called "autopsy of a dill pickle" to teach students dissection techniques and about the anterior, posterior, etc.
What other non-dissection things do you do for high school anatomy as hands-on activities?
