Okay, I have taught sped for 2 years, but now I am teaching self-contained students. I have to do lesson plans for all subjects (not hard, I taught 4th grade). My question is this:
I am struggling with the curriculum in my new school because all of the books (reading, science, social studies) have been used for the past 3 - 4 years. However, I am going to have the kids that have done these books for the past 2 - 3 years. I want to have easy to follow curriculum, BUT, I don't want to teach the "same old thing" that the students have been doing year after year. I thought about doing lit sets for reading, like Chronicles of Narnia, Golden Compass, other 4th grade level books and making a reading curriculum out of that. I also thought that I would just switch the order in the science book, and add some "newness" to it through internet activities.
What do you think?
