I'm neither associated with nor trying to promote either of the stores below but until recently I had no idea they did anything like this and free stuff is good!

----------

Staples and Office Depot have their teachers' appreciation events coming up in August. You'd need to check their websites to find the exact date in your area. They give away free stuff at their events. Office Depot has three teacher events a year (Aug, Jan, & May). They're also offering a free breakfast on their day!

I think for Office Depot you have to sign up for their teacher rewards club in order to get free supplies on their day. You can do so at www.mystarteacher.com

To sign up for Staples' Teacher Reward program visit https://www.staplesrewardscenter.com/SORC/UserManagement/Login/Login.aspx

I hope some of you find this information helpful!

This is true. Also, each week Staples puts a few items on sale that should not be passed up. Last year I got two pocket folders for 10 cents each, pencil sharpeners for a penny a piece, eight pencils in a pack for a nickel. You do have to watch the Sunday circular or online circular and make a few trips. Also, Target, does a similar thing. I often buy the 10 pack of crayola markers for 88 cents, or marble or spiral notebooks at a deep discount. With the price of gas, you have got to live close by these stores (within a mile) like I do to make it worthwhile. Check Walmart, too. Also, your district or school may provide you, or be in the store computer as a tax exempt participant. Check.

I just saw a commercial for Big Lots which mentioned something about a teachers' event. I briefly glanced at their website but didn't see anything. Something else y'all might want to keep in mind.

EDIT
-----
Upon further review, I saw their online ad and all teachers receive 10% off their purchase all day Saturday Aug. 2nd as long as you have your school ID. Before you head to your local Big Lots, I'd double check the online ad because I don't know whether or not this event is on the same date nationwide.

I heard Staples will let teachers get more than advertised maximum on some products, so don't forget to ask if you need a large quantity.

Sweet! Thanks for the info! I'm going to give this a shot next time they have a big sale!

Update: I jsut got the online circular for Staples for the week of Aug.3rd. There are two pocket folders for ten cents each, 1 subject spiral 70 pg. notebooks in packs of 6 for 5 cents each, marble covered notebooks 100 pags. in two packs 50 cents each, sharpie highlighters 6 pk. for a dollar, and a few more. I always want to keep spare notebooks on hand because some of my students can't afford to purchase all the required school supplies.
