I am looking for chapter books that I can use in my sixth grade guided reading class that would relate to our Taking A Stand unit. I thought that I could use Hoot or Number the Stars as Shared reading with the whole class, but I am going to have 5 guided reading groups and am at a loss for books that would work with the Tanking a Stand unit.

Well, I can't think of any fiction right off hand but what about using non-fiction for the reading groups since you are reading fiction with the whole class. Choose some autobiographies/biographies of people who took a stand...great connection to social studies. Here were some that I thought of immediately:
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Gandhi
Nelson Mandela (he has written a lot of books!)
Nellie Bly
Cesar Chavez
Susan B. Anthony
Hey, I might even use this idea for my class next year...

You could also use books (non-fiction) about Rosa Parks!

To Kill a Mockingbird- Harper lee. Atticus takes a stand against prejudice in a small town community.
Lord of the Flies-William Golding. A lot in this novel, but it is male oriented.
Poetry: Song to the Men of England by Shelley.
Animal Farm by George Orwell.
