Hello! I am a new teacher, 6th grade, in a new state. We have been having meetings all week and setting up our classrooms. I am feeling very excited but completely overwhelmed and nervous. Also, we were just informed that there is a school orientation tomorrow morning and our students would be there for about an hour and a half. Not all students are expected to show up, the opportunity is just available if they would like it. We are supposed to give them a tour and keep them busy. I don't want to go over all the expectations but I do want to make it clear that I have high expectations while also having a fun morning. Does anyone have any suggestions for an activity because not all my students will be there? I just want to make a good impression.

Read them a story, do a story map, go out on the playground with sidewalk chalk and draw the story. Play a bingo game with math facts. Draw a map of the school after you take them on the tour. Have them draw the way to the office, music room, art room etc.
