New here, nice to meet everyone...

I am a 2nd year teacher, run a self-contained program, severe LD and mild-moderate DCD (14 kids). I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience with a setting similar to this that I could ask a few questions?

Specifically, I was interested to know if anyone here has implemented social and science curriculums, like a content equivalent class at a reduced rigor and pace for kids with severe reading and language impairments. This is something I am struggling to incorporate. Ya know, what curriculum is out there? What is considered best practice? How would this look when it's working?

Thanks for the time

I teach in a self contained classroom - and the curriculum that we use is called FACES. The social studies part is basically social skills, and the science is cooking. This may be a bit low for your kids, most of mine are non-verbal, but it works well in my room, and the students are excited to cook and do hands on activities!

That sounds like what I do with my preschoolers.

Which gave me a suggestion for you: You might try looking at cirricula for children who are at the developmental level of your students. For example, the science experiment of Exploding Milk is designed for small children but can be adjusted to fit the needs of your kids.
