I've been trying to research how to properly write high school level curriculum and text books - outside of working for a major publisher. I believe that I have a pretty unique idea, so forgive the vague details. Does anyone have information about how to get started, workshops or certifications?

Errr... I think you can publish independantly by contacting Amazon.
As for format, get a copy of the standards for the subject and grade level you are targeting. There are some broad continumes across states. Make sure those are addressed inside the text in some way. Also, look over current textbooks. There is usually defined vocab., review questions, chapter summeries, and whatnot.
My personal thing is that textbooks need to have pictures and graphs too. An all text textbook won't work. Some students need grapic representations of new concepts to fully grasp the idea.
