Okay, y'all, typically I would never post such a thing, I was fascinated and intrigued by by this, and even ran it by Addict.
Basically, epals teamed up with National Geographic to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of the UN's Declaration of Human Rights in the form of a writing contest. It would have been great as an end of the year activity, but I just got the email yesterday. Still, I thought I would share because many of us have writing samples or just the perfect writers in mind when we such things. I wish I had gotten this before school let out for the summer.
Additional information is in link that follows.
Basic Idea: "In recognition of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights, which is coming up in December 2008, National Geographic Children’s Books plans to publish a book called Every Human Has Rights.
The book will be made up of the text of the Declaration, rewritten to be accessible to children, along with National Geographic photographs from around the world. It will also feature short quotes and poetry by children. That is where your students come in. Your students have a chance to have their words included in this book.
The deadline for the children’s work will be July 7, 2008. National Geographic Children’s Books will then review all submissions and select entries for publication. We hope many of you will participate.
