I'm a Chinese, I'm going to be an English teacher in a high school next year after my graduation. but I still don't know how to connect with my future students. And I'm always worried about what if they don't want to listen to me, or what if their English is better than mine... I'm really very nervous. What should I prepare in the last college year? Could any one give me some advices? Thank you so much!

Well, I think maybe working to improve your English would make you feel more confident. If you still have another year before graduation, then you have more time to work on it. :)

As a side note...I've only been out of high school a few years. And if I remember correctly, most students just want to get through it. So they will be more focused on what you want them to do, then you yourself. (as you can see English wasn't my best subject). Good lucK :)

High school students who truly want to learn, graduate, and move on to college will not be hung up on your accent or pronounciation of words. They will get turned off if you come off not knowing your material or appear to lack self confidence. Whatever you are teaching be prepared! Be upfront with them, too. On the very first day, be very clear about your expectations: classroom behavior, class work, participation, homework, quizzes, tests, etc., and then you must be CONSISTENT. During student teaching, pay careful attention to how the regular classroom teacher projects this confidence, and how he/she is able to manage the class by keeping them engaged. Good luck!
