Hi everybody,
we are asking how can we promote multicultural education in our English classrooms?
Thanks. :)

What state do you teach in? What grade level do you teach? This will help me in suggesting activities.

I just went to my first graduation Pow Wow. Very cool. it is Interesting how the Dakota People (commonly called Sioux) use tobacco in their spirituality. the evening meal was blessed with a silent reflection and what looked like a Lucky Strike. I also noticed that one of the adult dancers had a bite of chaw as he was dancing, using a spit-stained handkerchief to wipe his mouth. It seemed disturbing at first, but became part of the background, like the smell of the smudge pot burning dried sage. how's that for multicultural?

smithmt, I am very jealous of you! You see, my first degree is in Anthropology with emphasis in Native American culture and Folk lore. I persued that for a year, fell in love, and wanted to find a more stable line of work...teaching. I really miss it!! I always say that when I get these children raised, I will go back to what I really want to do! Keep posting about your experiences...I love to read about them!
