A district sheet for department budgetary requests for next year was placed in my faculty mailbox ... but since I'm rarely in the faculty lounge I didn't realize this was in my mailbox until earlier this morning.
The sheet seemed fairly straight forward. I needed to identify how much money I needed for textbooks, food supplies, utilities etc.
I basically copied last year's budget and added in a healthy amount for new textbooks as all of my current textbooks are outdated out of print home economics books. I have no culinary arts books to speak of.
Since the directions from district advised me to consult with my building administrator if I had questions, I went in search of the principal. He wasn't in his office and I was told that he'd be off campus all day.
No problem.
I went to the district office in search of the business director. Surprise-suprise. He wasn't in his office and I was told that he wouldn't be back until Monday.
Fine.
I went back to my school and went in search of the CTE director (career and technical education). She left early.
I filled out the form as best I could, included a cover letter explaining my basic needs, and included a copy of last year's budget.
I gave the entire kit and kaboodle to the office secretary.
"Did you first give this to your department chair?" she asked.
"My department WHAT?"
"Your department chair."
I told the secretary that after having been at this school for eight months, I hadn't even realized that I HAD a department chair. Who was it?
The secretary gave me a name.
So ... I went looking for the department chair but by this time it was 3:15 and the woman was gone. I returned to the office and found that the secretary was also gone.
I left my budget request on the secretary's desk and am hoping that the building administrator won't be too literal with the instructions that read ... "Departments that don't have their budgets turned in on time will not HAVE a budget ..."
Hmmmmm ... it's going to be an awfully long year next year if all I can afford are a can of pork and beans and a can of Vienna sausage. :(
(sigh)
