attention span

I am wondering if anyone can tell me what the normal attention span is for children aged 3/4/5. I have a 4yr. old that has a VERY short attention span and I am curious as to how long it should be.

I am wondering what is that child doing at this time when that attention span is so short. I think this all depends on what is happening around this child, are they by themselves or with peers, is it quite or noisy? I have seen kids at this age sit for about 10-15 minutes doing things while the child next to him sits for 2 minutes and runs aound. I work with 2 year olds and sometimes their attention span runs from very short to longer periods of time.

When the child is playing or learning with other children. Compare his/her attention span to the attention span of the other children he/she is playing with of the same age group.
