So I was chatting with another teacher during our planning earlier this week, and I brought up this field trip I 've been talking about. She said, "I've already heard about it." I asked her if it was from another teacher she said it wasn't it was from one of my kids, we'll call him Bob. She said Bob told her about the trip, and was so excited about not only the trip, but my class. She said he said to her (and I quote) " Ms---- you were good, but Ms. G is awesome!"
Maybe she was saying it to make me feel good......
IT WORKED!:D:p;)

It is great when students like and respect you. Many teachers just try to be a friend, but kids want a good teacher...they want to learn in a fun, sturctured, educational environment.

It is amazing when you realize you make the difference and make the children happy. I almost cried the first time one of the kids I tutor thanked me and then told me he wished I could be his teacher all the time.

I have been accused of trying to be a friend to students, when all I really want is for them to know that someone cares. I agree that learning should be fun and structured and also meaningful. That is what makes what they learn memorable.

:)Good for you, sgeastel!
I had a similar experience with a middle school English teacher. She has the eighth graders write autobiographies, and she recently told me that many of her students include stories about my in their autobiographies and say they enjoyed being in my class and have great memories of that year. It made me feel great!!:D

It does, doesn't it? Every time my kids say nice things about other teachers, I am certain to let them know. It can really brighten your day!

I really like it when my former students walk over from the high school to see me. It makes me feel good that they still think of us back at the middle school. I remember a student from my very first 7th grade class walked over one day before her high school graduation to thank me. She told me that she appreciated how much she learned from my class and how I really laid the foundation for her high school science classes. She is now in medical school.
I think my proudest moment in my teaching career came from a student who wrote a memoir about me. In the end, she said that I was her favorite teacher because I treated her like a real person...with respect. I cried. She came from a bad home and I used to pray for her to make it out of this town and make something of herself every night. Two years ago, she graduated high school, made it to the Hollywood auditions of American Idol and has a full scholarship to the University of Kentucky in the Engineering program. She stops in to see a few of us every time she comes home.
Another year, I had a student who did not talk to adults...I am not kidding, no one but her parents. Not even grandparents or aunts and uncles. Her mom was a teacher at one of our elementary schools. This was the year I was pregnant with my second child. One day, she walked in holding a baby gift bag. "The class and I wanted to buy you something special so you will remember us while you are at home with the baby." It was the faintest whisper, but to my ears it was loud and clear. I cried...then called her mom with the wonderful news and we cried again. She is in high school and has slowly continued to open up to new people.
I teach for those days.

Our senior honor students recognize one teacher at a banquet each year. 95% of the students will honor a high school teacher, and 4% will honor an elementary teacher. 1% will remember a middle school teacher. It is such a wonderful feeling when you are remembered by a student!!!!

Love it!!
The other day, one of my boys was giving me a hard time. One of the other boys, who is usually the same way, told the first student, "Dude, stop givin her a hard time. She's the coolest teacher here. She's just doing her job"
It made me feel great :-)

One year during our "Moving Up Exercises," the E.S. students moving into middle school gave their teacher a dozen of red roses. I never saw so many tears. It was wonderful!
The students did this on their own. They talked to the classroom assistant about what they wanted to do. The assistant checked with the florists in the area, gave the information to the students, collected the money and ordered the flowers that they had selected.

That is a wonderful story. So nice to hear of teachers being appreciated by their students!

at my college, I was in the University marching band and stuff like this was referred to as "the SECOND best feeling in the world... and if we have to tell you what #1 is, you haven't done it"
