I am wanting to make Cat in the Hat hat's next week for Dr. Seuss' birthday but all the one's I am finding have alot of steps. I have 3,4,5's in the same room and alot of the 3's and 4's are not where they should be developmentally. So it needs to be pretty easy and not take too long. I could do some of it at home but want them to make most of it.
I hope someone can help me!:)
Blessings,
Stacey

I've made simple hats with kindergarteners and third graders. Both ages enjoyed wearing them.
All I do is draw the cat's hat shape on a piece of 12x18 construction paper, add some lines for the stripes, then copy the template on more construction paper using the copy machine. The students cut and color the hat, then I add a strip of construction paper to fit around the head and staple or tape it.
If you have large tag board, that works even better because it's stiffer.
When making the template, be careful that you don't make the hat too tall. If it's too tall, it won't stand up.
I realize it's not a true hat, but my students like it just the same, AND it's super easy and fast. I forgot that Dr. Seuss's birthday is next week until I read your post. Thanks for posting!
