Two students finished their work while others were working, so one cashed in his 15 minute game coupon. They were on the floor playing my floor checkers game, which hubby bought at a really good sale, of course.

One said to the other, "You can't jump me!"

I was making my way back to my desk at that precise moment, so I said, "I'm walking around you. I'm not going to jump you."

Apparently, what I said has some other connotation to it. The guys were smirking, so I quickly said, "Never mind. Not that."

There is a reason I was called Virgin Ears in high school.

Yes, Bananas, the phrase does have a very, very different connotation, not only for our students, but many of our young adults.

All I can say is that you handled it well, perhaps not truly knowing what the phrase meant to the students. "Never mind. Not that." took care of the situation and didn't make a "mountain out of a mole hill." ;)

There are times when I have to ask my son or daughter what the significance is of something. Thank goodness for our children!

You could also try Googling it! That might be some interesting results...
