autistic children & math

I teach autistic kindergarteners. I am trying to teach them number sense and compaing quantities (more, less, the same). Any ideas?

Using food items (an individual's favorite) over a period of time might help. If they pick which of two offerings, they might get the idea of more or less.

Try also to work the concepts into everything you do with the children. It might be as simple as commenting "More children have on red shirts today than green shirts." or "Katie has less papers on her desk then Joel." The children may begin to start saying things like this too.

Hi, I am from the UK.

A thought, have you thought of 'Cuisenaire rods' These allow for a sense of number before any language. and they move on from there. Have a look on line for some, a small simple set is not expensive.It comes with instructions and you can buy workbooks directly linked to them.
My kids love them and think they are playing.

I have used them at work ( as support) and at home( as mum)
