Do you believe it? January is just about over!
In two days we will find out from Punxsutawney Phil if we will have six more weeks of winter or if spring is right around the corner.
Did you know that Phil started making predictions in 1887 and that he has seen his shadow approximately 90% of the time?
Well, living on the east coast, I'm hoping that Phil does not see his shadow, making spring just around the corner. I'll take a chance on his prediction being correct!
Today was a beautiful day, high about 52 degrees. Prediction: rain over night, icy conditions tomorrow!
On February 2nd, Groundhog Day, all eyes will be on Punxsutawney Phil in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. What do you think? Will he see his shadow, meaning that we will have six more weeks of winter :(; or that he will not see his shadow, meaning that spring is right around the corner.
I'm counting on you, Phil! Don't let me down!

It was 54 degrees today in south central Arizona and the temperature will rise to the sixties starting tomorrow.
I can't help but snicker at the locals who continue to complain about the "cold" weather. I love this weather. It's warmer than Pennsylvania and it hasn't even snowed.
The "just wait until the summer" warning by the locals hasn't fazed me at all. The average summer temperature of this part of Arizona is only 98 degrees Fahrenheit. Most of my colleagues don't know that I spent 7 years in Saudi Arabia where the average temperature is 113 degrees ... and sometimes as hot as 127 ... :)

Having lived in Pennsylvania, you do know that our 54 degree temperature at this time of the year does not feel the same as your 54 degrees. It was rather chilly because the ground was cold from all of the prior days of temperatures in the 30s. Plus, there is always the wind-chill factor. However, I can say, thus far this winter, it hasn't been too bad. A little dusting of snow, about three times, where I am. Only got the shovel out once.
I think that I would appreciate an average summer temperature of 98 degrees. Yes, I could live with that! :)
However, you can keep the 113 to 127 Saudi Arabia temperatures. I wouldn't survive! When the temperature reaches the high 90s here, I "die."
So, you don't have to worry about Phil seeing his shadow or not! :p

I like all the seasons. I think it would be boring to only have warm temperatures. Where is the fun in that?

Errrr ... not having to shovel sidewalks in the winter? :)
Not having to put on snow tires ... not having to dig the car out of the driveway because the municipal snowplow piled snow across the driveway ... not having to pay an arm and a leg and a foot and a hand for heating oil ... not having to unload a food delivery truck in a howling blizzard on a day when 3/4's of the staff have called off because of the weather and customers are piling into the restaurant because the interstate has shut down ... :) :D :)

Today in So. California was about 60. I heard that groundhog was usually wrong anyway.

Okay. Winter isn't all fun. You bring up some valid points.
Still, I like it - same as I like all the seasons. There are snowballs and hot chocolate, sweatshirts and fuzzy blankets, pristine snowfalls and snowmen, ect.
All the seasons are both good and bad. Spring and fall have rain and floods. Winter has snow and ice. Summer has heatwaves and drought.

Well, "D-Day" is just about over. I understand that across the country there have been mixed forecasts.
Alas, Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his hibernation long enough to see his shadow, then headed back to his burrow for more sleep time. Woe is me - six more weeks of winter.
However, there is good news from New York and Georgia. Their groundhogs didn't see their shadows. Yea - spring is right around the corner. :D
What can I say? I don't live in New York or Georgia. I was counting on Phil! Guess I'll keep my gloves, boots, scarfs and shovel out for a little while longer.

Winter weather started long before winter even started here. I won't put much stock in the groundhog.
DD's boyfriend wanted to go to PA for that event, but daughter said it was too far for that. So they went to a more local outing.
Someone is busy doing their snowdance, and they must stop right now!!

I think it would be really cool to actually go see the groundhog do his thing. A neat field trip, too. Though, I'm not sure how you'd fit it into the cirriculm.
