pre-first/transitional first grade?

i teach kindergarten but we are considering instituting a pre-first. Anyone have experience in this transition?

We are also implementing a Transitional First for 08-09. Have you had any feedback from the post? Would you like to compare notes?

I've heard of this type of thing, but it was called something else. Research says that it helps the chlldren get more ready for first grade without the stigma of being left back.
