Well today is the first day back after our holiday.
In one sense I am ready to be back into a routine, in another, it was nice to stay in jammies until 10:00 :D
Kids will come back tomorrow.

It is my first day back at work today too...and the kids are coming back today also. I am not ready. The holiday went by too fast.

I'm not really ready either. Today is the first day back for teachers and students. We had a super long break (December 14 was the last day - today), but I would rather be lounging around doing whatever random thing comes to mind. :)

I don't have to report back until Monday, 1/7/08 ... but I've been going in since yesterday simply to get some work done rearranging my classroom.
Since I was hired late in the year, I literally spent 4 days driving to Arizona and began work the next day. On the day I reported to work, I also closed on the purchase of my house. The movers arrived the day after that and school began the day after that.
I've been playing catch up all year and have survived by prioritizing what I needed to do. I also distinguished between needs and wants and opted for "must do" tasks like rewriting curriculum instead of "I'd like to do" tasks like rearranging my office.
Now that I have some time, I'm rearranging my office and rearranging the way the culinary arts lab is set up. I am also updating my competency checklists to document what has been taught and what remains to be taught.

Some of my kids have been great. Others, yeah, not so much. My 3rd period, which is usually horrible, was actually great. On the other hand, my 4th period, which is usally great, was on the brink of destruction.
Only 45 minutes until I am free of kids until tomorrow!
Oh, and I just think it is so stupid that we started back on a Thursday. How random.

We lost a day of break due to an ice storm in early December. We went back on the 2nd. Most were fairly calm as the ones that had really partied for New Year's Eve were still hung over and didn't bother to come to school. That first day back is always hard.

Lucky, lucky you. December 14th was your last day before the holidays? What a nice break!
I guess the more time given, the more we want. I would have loved finishing on the 14th! But, I know that I wouldn't have been ready to return, either! ;)

We had a snow day the week before Christmas, which was exam week, so I go back Monday to a half day with two exam periods. At least they won't be wild. They can't be!!
Tuesday, it's back to normal.

I started back today. Kids were all over the place.
Checked my cell phone during my planning period to find a message from my hubby wondering where I was and wondering when I would be home. So I called him and let him know that I was at school. Told him I would be home after my meeting.
I had a meeting?
Yessss.
Why would you have a meeting?
One was scheduled after school.
You aren't off all week?
No.
Oh. See you tonight.

Mine returns back to college tomorrow, so I made him my breakfast casserole to take back with him to his campus apartment. It is best sitting in the fridge overnight, so I will be up extra early cooking it before I go to school. They insist on growing up. :(

I spent the day reorganizing the culinary arts lab, updating student competency checklists, and ordering food from my wholesale suppliers for next week.
When I got thirsty, I got crushed ice and sodas from our soda dispenser.
When I got hungry, I deep fried some battered onion rings and flame grilled a bacon cheeseburger.
If I just had cable TV in my classroom, I'd be all set ... :)

I'm ready to get back into the routine, but I was still whiny about having to go back. Lucky for me we got snow on Tuesday, so we got THREE snow days. :D
The teachers had to go in today, but we used it as a work day. Some of the secondary roads were still ice/snow covered and slick, so the busses didn't run, but the main roads were clear. I did get quite a bit of work done, and it was kind of nice to have an "ease in" day before the kiddos returned.
Monday will be like the first day of school all over again, only without the honeymoon period of the beginning of school. I spend a good portion of my day reteaching procedures since they forget EVERYTHING over the break . . . or pretend they do, anyway.

I think my kids act worse now than the beginning of the year

This is called selective hearing. I am convinced of it. Mine will not remember me specifically telling him that we have a meeting with so-and-so and such-and-such time, but will catch a little mumble to myself that I may make cookies today if I have time and wonder where they are.
We go back on Monday. We have been gone since the 22nd - just came back the night of the 3rd. I am at school trying to make sense of the chaos in front of me, and (as you can tell) procrastinating.

You are probably correct. It is the interest radar that sparks a person to focus on what is being said. It also amazes me that I might repeat something 3 times before it sinks in, yet he will be surprised when I don't get something the first time around.
