Today was our traditional Christmas dinner at school lunch - turkey, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, hot rolls, green beans, etc. The elementary teachers stayed after school yesterday and made gingerbread cookies for all the students. They decorated the lunchroom with trees, candles, presents, etc. The students went in and sat down and the teachers served them their lunch instead of the kids going through the lines. There were candles on all the tables and the lights are off. The kids think this is the greatest day ever!! They get to eat off real plates instead of trays and they are served like grownups in a restraunt. We are still allowed to celebrate Christmas in our little country school.

We also had our annual staff dinner today. Since we're in Arizona, we had a Mexican dinner: Spanish rice, refried beans, beef fried with peppers and onions, chicken fried with peppers and onions, tortilla chips, flour tortillas, and various condiments and fillings for our soft tacos - cheese, lettuce, tomato, salsa, guacamole, and sour cream.

As a chef instructor for the culinary arts department, I provided 2 trays of layered jello, a bowl of fresh fruit salad, Christmas cookies, and a buche de noel Swiss Yule cake.

The cafeteria did not serve a Christmas meal to students. The meal you described was served on the day before Thanksgiving. Teachers, administrators, the superintendent, and school board members all served our students.

We also do a Thanksgiving lunch where all the staff cook things and bring it in.

Today we had our holiday breakfast which, despite trying to respect all holidays, is always Christmas-oriented. The parents all come in and eat breakfast with the kids, then a bunch of the kids come up and sing songs. This year our CFO came dressed at Santa, which was great to see.

Next year, I decided that my class will sing "Dreidel" to incorporate more holidays.

I think that the Christmas dinner sounds like a blast. I also love the idea of having a day long winter celebration. At the middle school level we spent the day doing more team building type of activities.
