I'm a new member here, but this issue is making me crazzy

I don't know how many times I get to the bottom of my post--and I admit some of my posts can be lengthy--and I hit the "submit" button and the Forum won't post it!

I've been locked out--have to log in again. What's up with this?

Fortunately, as a long-time Internet poster, I can 'copy and paste' my entry, but that gets old after a while.

Izzit just me? Does this happen to anyone else? Izzit my computer timing me out--or you as Forum admin?

S'maddy help me with this 'puter prob!

I've never experienced that before, and I can also run on a bit. Are you using websites in your posts? I know those aren't allowed for new members. I don't really see how copy/paste would make the post go through if it was just length... I mean, it is still the same amount of words. Next time, try going advanced. Maybe that'll help.

Or, this is a quite simple explanation, were you never logged in at all? You can read and type replies without being logged in. You just can't submit them.

maridee,

Are these "time outs" when you are replying to a post or making a new one?

If it is when you are posting a reply, I would agree with Boxcar - Go Advanced. Or simply choose the "post reply" button.

The reason is that the "Quick Reply" option uses a coding language called AJAX - which can be quirky if anything goes wrong (internet glitch, javascript rendering errors in the browser, low memory, etc).

I personally haven't had any problems lately. I did have some people who had issues a while back, but the bug was fixed - not to say that a variation of the bug is now occuring.

If you know what your Operating System is (Windows XP, Vista, Mac OSX) and your browser (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc) and your browser version (go to your browser's "Help" - usually very to right of the top menu - then choose "About IE" - or "About Firefox" etc...) it will give you a version number. If I can get all of that info, I can try to replicate the problem - and then research how to fix it.

Chances are that you aren't the only person this is happening to - just the only one who spoke up.

Another issue is that you could have Cookie issues - somehow the cookie is corrupted. You can try logging in, then choose the "Log out" button. Then close the browser. Then try to re-open and re-login in. That should make sure that all cookies (if corrupted) are cleared out - then reset a new cookie (hopefully correctly).

Now I'm the one who's getting long winded ;)

Length of posts shouldn't matter...

Yes, time-outs occur while I'm writing long posts.

Mozilla version: 2.0.0.11

Boxcar--

Yes, I'm logged in. Somewhere along the line I get logged out--and I'M NOT the one logging myself out. It happens while I'm composing the long posts.

And Addict--yes, the time-outs occur as I'm posting a new thread too.

Things that make you go 'Hmm...'

Maybe I need to clean out my cache--dump cookies, yadda, yadda...

Ok. I have Firefox and XP. I do have issues with Gmail and Firefox (I believe Firefox has issues with Ajax), but it sounds like your problems are not only with the "Quick Reply".

When you are submittting your 'long' posts where you get logged out, you hit the submit button - does it take you straight to a 'log-in' screen?

Ok. I just found a possible solution.

Log out.
Log back in, but be sure to use the "Remember me" checkbox. That will keep you logged in via Cookies. If you don't use the "Remember Me" option, our server remembers you using session variables. Session variables time-out after 900 seconds (15 minutes). We need to have the session variables time-out because each session takes up server memory, but cookies are stored on your end, and don't use server memory - so Cookies won't expire and you should stay logged in.

Is it possible for you to do that? If so, let me know how it works!

Thanks, Addict!

I'll try that and see if it works and will let you know.

Well, got timed out--AGAIN!

Had to "copy/paste" my reply so I didn't lose it--log in again--and re-post.
Grrr..

maridee - When you log in - is the "remember me" button checked? Your browser must also allow cookies (this is the default on browsers, so unless you manually turned them off then you should be set up correctly).

When I read about the Forum Time Out, I thought someone was naughty and had to stay off for a little while. ;)

Not quite.

Hey, I'm a little late on this and I am relatively new to the site; however, it happened to me once. I did an email about the situation and was told to click on "remember me" when I log in. It hasn't happened since I started doing that.

As I said, I'm late with this post. Do hope that your problem was resolved. :)
