I was reading some other people's posts, and this story came to mind. It happened last spring while I was teaching chemistry to high school juniors and seniors.
I have one student who has a particularly hard time sitting still and being quiet during class. He constantly makes comments (often marginally appropriate), tries to be the center of attention, and just plain disrupts the class. One day This student walked into class and asked to borrow my tape. I gave him permission, so he went and got it out of the closet. When he turned around, I saw that he'd grabbed the duct tape. Before I could even ask what he was planning on using it for, he unrolled some and wrapped it around his own head, across his mouth 3 times. Then he put the tape away and sat quietly in his seat for the duration of the class. He didn't even make a scene after that. The rest of the kids ignored him. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen a student do.
