I only have a small bulletin board in my high school classroom (4 by 3). I always check out the fabric remnant bins at Walmart for fabric for my backing. Remnants are usually 1/2 price and are plenty large for my board. My bottom layer is a tiger stripe, since we are the tigers. I use this if I don't have a seasonal fabric to use. The tiger stripe stays on all the time and the others are stapled on top of it. I have fabric for most of the holidays and use the corugated border to cover my jagged cuts on the edges. Once the fabric is cut to size, it is a breeze to pull it out, staple it up, and be done. Most of the farbic was a little over $1.50.

This is a great idea....I have thought of using fabric for so many things...including wrapping Christmas gifts and Birthday...it's just sooooo usable! Thanks for the tip!

Was Wondering what you have underneath it all...just the wall or cork or something?

I put the fabric over my bulletin boards instead of butcher paper.

This is the first time I've used fabric for the background on bulletin boards, but I LOVE it!
I have a large bulletin board, so I used different colors of fabric to make three sections. This way I have a place to put papers without names (I leave it up to the kids to claim them), post grades/missing work, and a 3rd section for interesting articles and quotes.
The fabric stays looking nice a lot longer than paper does. Especially since I used dark colors, making it harder for my students to write on it.

I've been using fabric to cover bulletin boards for years. Each year, I introduce the idea with my new teachers. Since leaving the classroom, I don't have a stash of remnants anymore; but sometimes when I see a good deal, I'll purchase some and give them to my teachers.
In addition to fabric, I like to cover bulletin boards with wall paper. I've gotten discontinued designs dirt cheap.
Another idea for bulletin boards is to use a matching metallic colored file folder to make the corners for the bulletin board. Sometimes these are very inexpensive to purchase during "Teacher Appreciation" day or week at many office supply stores.

I have used fabric to cover bulletin boards for years, and I love it! I buy seasonal fabrics when they are on clearance, and there is always a $1/yard bin at Wal-Mart. I can spend a few dollars and have something to use over and over again. It's also much more attractive than paper, without as much temptation for students to write on the bulletin boards.

Y'all, thank you so much for this idea! Always having the butcher paper on hand, I never thought to use fabric. This just gave me so many more options, and right in time for the New Year.

I love using fabric! I use it to cover book shelves in the classroom. (Just hem and use a staple gun) Besides helping to keep the dust down, it makes the room less cluttered looking and colorful. I also like to use seasonal fabrics or fabrics that match a thematic unit to cover the top of my counter in front of the room. Then the students (and I) can put whatever they like on the table to go with the season or theme. We do this in stead of show and tell. Students can share with the class what that put on the table and we eliminate showing personal items that are of no pertinence to what we are learning about.
